With the skill Runecrafting players can create magical runes consumed by Magic spells. All runes are made out of Rune essence, mined from the Rune essence mine. Players can access this mine by talking to Aubury in Varrock and in Port Sarim.

You can buy Chaos gauntlets from Hickton shop for 158 coins to increase your xp gained by 5%.

Almost any rune can be made in the Abyss, an instance which can be accessed by talking to the Dark mage in the Wilderness (just north-east of Edgeville on lv 7), or by using the Abyss teleport at level 90 Magic in the Ancient spellbook. When a player has arrived to the Abyss he can make the runes by clicking on the hole that displays the desired rune with some rune essence in the inventory. All available rune essence will then be converted into runes of that type.

The only exception is the Astral rune. This rune can only be created by donator members by smelting 4 Rune essence in a furnace or with the spell Superheat whilst wearing an Astral tiara. Astral tiaras can be bought from Aubury's Rune store. You need 60 Smithing and 60 Runecrafting to smith Astral runes, giving 10 Astral runes per 4 rune essence and grating 40 Smithing and 40 Runecrafting experience.

The bigger the difference between the required Runecrafting level and the player's Runecrafting level, the higher the amount of runes that can be made from a single Rune essence.

Runes

In the table below all requirements and runecrafting experience for crafting runes are displayed. Also the amount of runes that you get for 1 Rune essence on level 99 Runecrafting is displayed. The multiplication does not apply to the amount of experience you get from crafting one Rune essence into a certain type of rune, that always stays the same.
