Guide to killing: Frost Dragons.
« on: November 07, 2015, 02:37:26 pm »
Hi everyone, I've decided to write a guide on killing Frost Dragons. Killing them can be a very good way of making money as they will always drop Frost Dragon Bones, these are the best bones for training prayer. This is the first guide I've made so feedback would be appreciated.

Requirements
  • 75+ Attack, strength and defense
  • 75+ Magic or ranged if you plan on using those combat styles
  • 65 Agility and an active membership
  • 55 magic for high alchemy
  • Dragonfire shield
  • Some food, potions are optional

Location

Frost dragons can be found at two places, revenant cave and Neitiznot island. Both of these places are relatively easy to travel to as they can both be teleported to using the games necklace. However revenant cave is in the wilderness, it's much more of a risk to kill them there. So we will be killing them at Neitiznot island. You will need 65 agility and an active membership to cross the second bridge on the island, just follow the route on the map. If you want to bank, you can teleport back close to the bank on the island using your games necklace.

Gear

If you're going melee, I recommend at the very least using dragon armour. A dragonfire shield is a must have, it reduces the damage the dragons deal to you by a lot. Ranged and magic are very effective ways of killing them as well, they can be safespotted and you won't really take any damage whatsoever from the dragons. You can pretty much afk them if you use ranged or magic, melee does kill them a bit faster though. As far as supplies go, I recommend taking at least sharks, potions are entirely optional but they do make stuff die faster. Also if killing these for slayer, I recommend you wear a Slayer helm if you have one.

Melee

Ranged

Magic

Solo spot(melee)

If your combat stats arent that high I recommend you only take one on at the time, this can be done at the far north-west of the island.

Multi spot(melee)

Its just a few steps away from the Solo spot, make sure you pull the other dragon. I wouldn't recommend fighting 3 at the same time as this might be to much. If you use prayer you can quite easily take on multiple dragons, this does increase your supply cost though so I don't recommend it. If you're out of food and your inventory isn't full of bones yet you can use prayer to make your trips last longer, just make sure you pay attention to your hp and their maxhit is pretty high.

Safespot(ranged/magic)

If you're using ranged or magic you can safespot the dragons, this means they won't be able to melee or mage you. They rarely do any damage if you have high level armour. You still have to wear a dfs if you want to pick up the loot, magic is a bit more convenient for this as ranged mostly has 2-handed bows.

Loot

Frosts have a very good droptable for how easy they are to kill, they even have a chance of dropping draconic visage. You should bring fire and nature runes in order to use high alchemy on certain drops, this will give you a lot of cash in the long run. The loot you can get is as follows:

Things you should pick up

Things you should use high alchemy on

Things you shouldn't pick up

That marks the end of my guide, I hope you've found it useful. Remember, any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks to Charr for helping me with the guide.

Happy Hunting!

I hereby give the staff team permission to update/edit this guide.

Aside from some spelling mistakes, pretty well done guide.

A few things to add:
  • You need an active membership and 65 agility to get to the ones at neitiznot island
  • Slayer helmet only works if you have them as a task, you should use a nezzy or bandos helm if you don't have them as a task
  • Games necklace can be taken as a 'quick teleport', the only downside is that there is no healer but it is quicker if you wanna do another trip
  • You can pretty much afk them with ranged or magic if you're wearing a DFS
  • Protect from magic isn't really needed if your gear has somewhat high magic defense

Solid guide! I would add in that you could use antifire potions so that you could then use a Zamorakian spear which does extra damage against monsters that are considered large, which means that take up more than one square space. An anger weapon would also work for these. I've also found the the dragon halbred special is VERY useful against monsters that take up more than on square space because it hits twice in one special, you could add that in also!
Other than those two things, solid guide!

Antifire potions would cause them to hit you a lot more though since they have less dragonfire protection than dfs, not that favorable if you're low gear but definitely good if you're in high gear. Would take away from the moneymaking part a bit, will have to test if the increased killing speed is worth it.

That is what I've been doing since antifires were released, but I also have high gear, so that could be why I am seeing success. Good thoughts though, I can  definitely see why a dfs would be more appropriate if you're averaging 2-3 more a load using it opposed to using a potion.
