Update Voting
« on: August 22, 2015, 03:33:10 pm »
Hello!
Pretty basic suggestion. I'd like to see a voting type of thing where players can vote for updates that they want/which updates they want first.
This would just make it so players could have a say in what direction Emps-World should go.
(Don't think it would be hard to implement either)

Edit: Make a minimum hours of ingame time in order to stop people creating multiple accounts.

Player 2: Who's there?

People can put a poll into their own Suggestion threads if they want. However, polls are easy to manipulate by making multiple accounts, so player feedback in this section is a much better indicator whether or not people want something to be added into the game.

I'm not saying that polls are completely out of question, because Thomy did create one last December asking what people wanted to see in Emps this year.

Maybe make it so you have to have atleast X amount of playing hours to vote?

What we currently have (the feedback & suggestion sections) are more than enough regarding player influence on updates. Players already have plenty of influence on updates, as long as they are able to make points with reason. A vote on updates would bring cons with it as well, you could create a ton of accounts to make a certain update have priority. A lot of people wouldn't even vote (if the forums are used) and it would require development time if there's gonna be something in-client. The system would bring a ton of flaws with it, I would much rather keep the suggestion/feedback system we have now.

You already have a say in which direction emps goes, though ultimately it's Thomy's server and he makes all the final decisions.

Maybe make it so you have to have atleast X amount of playing hours to vote?
Wouldn't work, quite easy to leave like 10 clients running while waiting for that playtime.

Ok, what about making it so you have to have atleast X total level?
Maybe give some rewards for voting?
Make the votes only be 'which update would you like first'?

It's quite easy to get 1000 total level within about a week, it could still be abused. Rewards would give people more reason to abuse it.

Making it so that you don't get double XP unless you vote wouldn't work either then?
Obviously no matter what you do people are going to abuse it. Finding a way for people not to do this would be hard, but I'm sure someone would come up with a good idea!

At that point no sane person would create and play on an alternative account for a week just to get one extra vote in. Yes, it's possible but very unlikely that somebody would create accounts for just that.
