Reducing alchemy exp
« on: September 14, 2015, 12:11:06 am »
This isn't gonna be a very long one.

High alchemy is the current title holder of 'most autoed' with at least few bans for it every week. While the bots are quite easily caught and reset, I feel it really does need to be discouraged more. Simply reducing the exp you get from it would probably drive more people to actually use combat spells to train magic, as it's meant to be. Additionally, some items that are commonly alched could also be made non-alchable, these would be items such as runes, feathers and fishing bait.

Alch values could be slightly turned up to compensate for exp loss.

I know it's gonna destroy anyone trying to make a 99 mage skiller, but they could always use superheat to train. I think people autoing alching is more of a problem than the discomfort of 99 mage skillers.

I'd be really interested to see why people would disagree to this, please post.

I can already tell this is going to be a highly controversial topic, although I do kind of agree. It could potentially stop autoers, but at the same time, they could auto superheat with a ghostmouse. All in all with tweaks here and there I think it could better the server.

Autoing superheat would be a lot harder to do (though it is possible) and it would give less exp. It would also be punished harder, since smithing would also be reset on the first punishment. Though superheat exp could be turned down as well if it becomes a problem.

I don't really mind, I don't even use this spell.

I may not be the best, but I'm definitely not like the rest.

Reducing exp isn't going to stop botting. People afk train magic on 07 by splashing which is like 20k exp/h.

I don't really mind the proposed changes to alchemy but I don't think it will solve the problem fully.

The way I see it is, a person who is auto clicking wouldn't be discouraged to stop doing it and train for real because that would require effort which they clearly do not have if they would auto the skill anyway. All this will do is make it so they have to bot for longer (which could mean they could get caught more easily) but as you said, catching them wasn't a problem.

I do like the idea of changing the commonly alched items to prevent people from gaining experience easily though. I was going to suggest adding some sort of requirement to the items alched, such as the price of the item needs to be valued at 1k+ (an example) within shops but I'm sure that would cause other problems.

I never said it would, it might reduce the amount of people that do or at the very least give us more time to catch them.

Or you could do your job and ban the autoers. Oh, you don't enjoy it? That's too bad.

Training magic through combat is already like 20x faster than through high alchemy. The problem is that magic in combat costs way too much compared to high alchemy.

Wow, that's a lot!
The number is relative, it is a lot compared to the amount of people that get banned for autoing other things. Now if you'd please talk about the actual suggestion.

No, because the people that didn't agree with it weren't giving feedback.

Please, stop the offtopic posts.
