Idea for achievement diaries
« on: July 01, 2017, 08:46:17 pm »
This is just a rough idea of what achievement diaries could look like. They could be divided into areas and cities inside the area.
There are easy and hard tasks on each city. Easy and medium tasks are combined because you will level up rather quickly at the start so lets just call them easy.

You would be able to follow your progress inside your quest tab. Maybe make it so that you're able to switch between the current tab and achievement diary tab by pressing a button?
All tasks would first appear red but the ones you've completed would turn green.

There are 3 main areas (excluded Wilderness from this) Misthalin, Asgarnia and Desert. All those areas have some cities inside them that contain some tasks you can do. Easy tasks basically being tasks that introduce you to low level content.

Easy tasks could reward you with some starter stuff that helps you at the beginning and help you to progress. Hard tasks could contain something more rewarding and useful stuff. Example reward from Desert hard tasks could be Gloves of Silence which grant you 10% bxp while Thieving. (Desert area being members only area and thieving being members only skill so it would make sense.) After you've completed all tasks in an area (Asgarnia for example) you would get additional rewards perhaps.

Main point of this suggestion is not the list of tasks I wrote, they are just examples. Point is the overall layout of how it would look like. Tasks inside cities while cities being inside a larger area.

Would be nice to have something to do more than just what usual scape game/servers offers.

Yeah exactly. What I also realized after I wrote all this is that there should be a few very hard tasks that actually take a few hours to complete because the whole achievement system diary takes A LOT of time to develop. Those kind of tasks are kind of hard to come up with I guess unless it's something like kill 25 Smoke Demon Champions instead of 1.

Here's more detailed, more figurative layout of the concept I was thinking. Green color meaning that part is done and red meaning that it's not done or is in progress and haven't completed every single task.
This list I made below is probably easier to understand than what I wrote earlier.
Combining cities even more would probably be a good option as well because some cities simply don't have much if anything to offer. Combining Draynor Village to Lumbridge or to Barbarian Village/Edgeville for example.

Getting a third color, orange for example to indicate that, that task or part is in progress (Haven't collected enough white berries for example, (3/25)) would make it even more clearer.

Not only that, it is good thing to have diaries hard tasks a completion of certain mini-game, for example, Emps-Wars or Pest Control. This also promote group playing even more(from personal experience of doing task for achievement diary) - it could give you additional bonuses to receive bonus tickets/tokens per game as well as rewards exclusive to those who actually will be doing them.
Even if it takes a while I would be very pleased to have diaries in game.
Diary Cape for it, maybe is an idea? You can change Quest Cape for Diary Cape when everything is done to have stats equal to Max Cape and being only alternative to it. It could act as Ava as well.
Tip: There should be medium ones as well for those who struggle to complete hard ones.
Elite ones that requires exceptional skills to do it taking some tasks from two to more hour to get done(Like the one you mentioned - Killing Smoke Demon Champion multiple times).
There is variety of things to achieve in game - mounting Kurask Head in your house, Catch Big Shark or Trade Tokkuls for Jad Pet or Inferno Adze(doesn't count if you have one). You can think for tasks all you want there can plenty made but rewards should be sufficient enough to both fit game and be worthy of time spent completing diaries.

>Tfw no rewards
I'm fine with having them and all but they should be done right or not at all. The last thing we had to encourage people to level up things other than combat was clue scrolls and that kind of failed miserably at it. While it is another step towards introducing completionist cape by adding requirements I don't think it is worth adding if the rewards aren't good. The original rewards aren't bad but you haven't really talked about rewards so idk what you'd want. Offering additional reward for completing a province wouldn't be a bad idea either.

I do hope to see tasks on the more creative side. Maybe some that would involve the player owned house, since people aren't exactly using them too much from what I've noticed.

Yes let's just give people an alternative route to getting a max cape that is way less intensive on levels and generally is a lot faster to get. Let's also take away from ava even more. This sounds like a really good idea. Having yet another cape added to the game is lovely.

If you got idea for Diary Cape, write it here. Also doing diaries is something people should be looking forward to(exploring cities, skills and what can they do) instead of just daily tasks with random number(like, up to 180) to cut magic logs get 50k~ for afking at tree only for pure afking... Rewards always comes within the exploration, just like in clues are.

A whole three weeks later. Seems right on time.

My idea for the diary cape would be to not have one. Saves having to make a custom model and trying to find a function for it. We don't need a dairy cape. I personally don't want a dairy cape. I think introducing new items just for the sake of being an alternative to an already existing item is something that should only be done if absolutely necessary. The original rewards for achievement diaries would contain ardougne cloak, it would be kind of weird to introduce another cape to the full outfit and it would be unnecessary too.

Daily tasks with a random number of things to do to get a bunch of bonus experience is a lot more interesting to me or anyone else trying to gain a lot of exp. There are rewards to it so people have a reason to do it. I think you'll find that a lot of people don't do clue scrolls for the sake of exploring but rather do it for the reward or not at all. Given that most people on this server tend to not be very knowledgeable when it comes to locations I think the number of people enjoying exploration would be equal to the amount of people that will hate it, if not fewer. There are also a vast amount of people that seem to be incapable of doing clues, I don't think those will be doing achievement diaries either.

Fair enough.
