I will show you what items to use depending on which way you want to go whether you want to have a main account or skiller account.

I prefer ess over coals, as its faster and much easier to collect the amount
and also sells for 1-1.5k each which is always a good method.

Because he got me to play the game again, this guide did actually. I checked the forum to check what's new in the game, saw this guide and 1.7k for coals sounded so ridiculous to me that I needed to rip people off and start buying coals until the price went to 2k.

Just to clarify how ridiculous even that 2k price is, I'll mention some things.
Coals are 2k ea.
1 rune bar requires 4 coals, that's 8k.
Runite ores buy immediately in GE for 5k ea.
Nature runes are 350 gp ea in rune shop.
That's 13.35k per bar.

Rune 2h swords require 3 rune bars.
That's 40k per rune 2h sword.
1 nature rune for alching makes it 40.4k for each rune 2h sword made and alched.
Rune 2h swords alch for 47,787 gp, that's 7.3k profit per sword.

Lazy? No problem, pay someone 1k ea to superheat the ores into bars, that'll cut profit down to 4.3k per sword, but it's still profit for just smithing and alching things.
Still lazy? No problem, pay someone to smith the bars into 2h swords, if you pay 1k per sword then that'll cut profit down to 3.3k per sword, but it's still profit for just alching things that you paid other people to make for you.
Still lazy? No problem, pay someone 1k ea to alch the 2h swords for you as well. That's 1k each for doing nothing more than alching (while you also provide the nature runes for them), so you can probably find someone trustworthy willing to accept an opportunity to earn easy money. That'll cut profit down to 2.3k per sword, when you literally do nothing other than buy things and wait for others to work for you. #Capitalism
Don't have 99 smithing but want to train the last 10 levels and earn profit while you're at it? Smith rune swords instead. They require smithing 89, use up 1 bar and alch for 16,281 gp, so you'll actually get more profit per bar, as long as you smith them yourself.

Another great way of making money as a starting player is to mine rune essence.
