Prayer Defence Bonus

Can someone sort of explain to me what it exactly does? I've never been 100% sure if having a high Prayer Bonus is good or not.

Higher prayer bonus = the slower your prayer drains.

This is about the prayer bonus weapons/armour grant, not the prayer skill in general, afaik it only slows down how fast your prayer drains when being active.
