how much does this beast cost?

Approximately 4000-5000$, I presume. Although, if you're looking for something to game with, that really isn't a good one. It's a server build.

Since you picked a 970 as your GPU, I'd recommend a beefier CPU too, so you won't have to worry about bottlenecks.
Also, get a psu that is more than 500W, since that's the minimum for your picked GPU. Something like 600-700W.
The i5-4460 is a decent cpu, I wouldn't really go lower than quad-core with that graphics card. 
i5 4690k would be the best choice for gaming, although you'd have to get a motherboard that supports overclocking. Then again, in your original build that you linked, you picked a motherboard that cost around 100 and you can get one that supports OC'ing for around that price too.
What exactly is your budget?

TDP for the 970 is only 145w though, the 500w minimum recommendation by Nvidia gives very generous headroom for power hungry components. As the 4460 only uses about 85w, a 500w PSU should be plenty even when including motherboard etc.
