Hard drive issue
« on: March 17, 2015, 06:13:33 pm »
Got a laptop, when I try to boot it it says. "No boot sector on internal hard drive

No bootable devices--strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility
Press F5 to run onboard diagnostics."

Also before saying it, the computer quickly makes 2-3 loud clicking noise.

Fix?

It's not my laptop but it had a hard drive issue that was fixed by buying a new harddrive. Everything worked for awhile after buying new hard drive and now this

Diagnostics:
0146
2000-0146

So does that mean the hard drive is kaput and needs replacing?

Get a new OS on a cdrom or flash device
It cannot boot cause there's no OS to boot anymore (or none it recognizes)
You can boot from flash drives or disks

I replaced the hard drive with one that has OS on it, but I don't remember it's user password.
Is there any way to format my current win7 without a OS installation disk and without access to my current win7?

Also are you positive it doesn't have a OS? Isn't the hard-drive just ded? - I mean I know it doesn't have an OS, but is that the only problem?

Edit: It doesn't matter anymore, I could not fix it in time. Probably doesn't have any other solution than either

Reinstall OS
RAM chip or chips dead

No, you'll need a new OS or a disk where you installed your previous OS from (if it was preinstalled contact ur old store/microsoft, maybe they can give you a new installation disk with your old OS code)

If you don't have an operating system on the hard drive you are using to run your computer on -> it will not boot lol
If the hard drive is dead then it won't boot either, but then your OS is probably corrupted and you need a new drive (with new OS or your old OS installing on it) to boot again.
IF it's not dead (if the OS is just deleted from it but the drive itself works fine) get a new installation disk, and run it so you install an OS on it, should work fine.

Could also be ram chips broken, in both cases your pc won't boot. I would definitely first try if you can get a new disk from your store/microsoft with your existing windows code (you can find it on a silver sticker on your pc) and see if you can reinstall. If not it means your hardware (harddrive/ram) is broken.

I sent it on it's way and told the owner to download a new OS from disk, and not a cracked one from usb or some shit.

Apparently, it wasn't a keygen, it's a list of codes, what I did was a tryout. Maybe it was listed based on keygen, either way, they didn't prompt me anymore. At first I was using a pre activated copy.

Just saying, you can download the Windows 7 iso disc image and put that on a USB stick. If it's a laptop, it usually has a sticker with your windows key, commonly under your laptop. I had a problem too, made a bootable USB stick, used my laptop's own key from the sticker and got it activated properly.
Not quite yet.
