3,5 mm mic isn't working on laptop?

So here's the thing, I have a 3,5mm microphone, which I want to use with my laptop but for some reason the laptop doesn't recognize it. I thought maybe someone would know if it's actually even possible to use 3,5mm mic on laptop. There is an integrated mic but it's not as good as my 3,5mm one.

Here are some specs:
Laptop: Acer Aspire E15
OS: Windows 8.1
