Stardust can be gathered from a shooting star and can be exchanged for various rewards including a dragon pickaxe and the golden mining set.

The amount of experience per stardust mined varies by the current stage of the crashed star, with a maximum of 1,300 stardust in a level 9 star.

You can exchange your stardust for rewards when you talk to the star sprite at the end of every shooting star event. It will stay around for 5 minutes after the last piece of stardust has been mined.
