Hide bug reports
« on: March 04, 2015, 06:05:21 pm »
Hey everyone,

I would like to suggest that the bug reports section (or posts within the section) be hidden from non staff players, unless said player posted the report.

Today, anybody is allowed to view bug reports, but only the creator and/or staff members can actually respond to them. Since other players aren't allowed to provide input, I don't think it's necessary to be able to view them. I also think that this system can lead to exploitable bugs being taken advantage of by multiple players prior to them being fixed.

Let me know what you think, and please be kind if i'm way off base here.  :D

Thanks,
Cody

I agree, players viewing the bugs may lead to abusing them which is against the rules.

I disagree, having the system you mentioned would mean that duplicate topics would be posted.

I would like to be able to post into those threads to give Thomy more information of certain bugs, instead of creating multiple threads. With the system you are suggesting, I couldn't even see which bugs people are reporting.

The most serious bugs are indeed moved to the staff section.

They do, however there is still a short period of time where they are visible to all players. It really only takes one person seeing it and telling a friend to ruin the economy.

I also think that this system can lead to exploitable bugs being taken advantage of by multiple players prior to them being fixed.

I also think that this is a good idea, if this is not to hard to implement I am with this 100%. Furthermore, even though most serious bugs are moved to where 'normal' players cannot view them. This would reduce the amount of people that could possibly exploit highly exploitable bugs, until they are moved by staff so 'normal' players cannot view them.

Thanks again Cody,
Austen

I understand what you're saying, however I don't think this would be too big of issue seeing as how the reported bugs are generally fixed within a week of being posted. In my opinion, the rewards outweigh the consequences.

I agree, but I will miss reading all the bugs that are found ::)

I also think that this system can lead to exploitable bugs being taken advantage of by multiple players prior to them being fixed.
You're only supposed to report minor & mediocre bugs in the bug reports. If the bug is severe (I.E duping) it should be directly reported to a higher staff member.

I disagree, having the system you mentioned would mean that duplicate topics would be posted.
Not a huge problem as staff members can 'merge' topics and bugs are usually found by one person.

You're right, but quite a few people don't know that.

Anyway, if this was going to be done wouldn't the simple solution be to move Bug Reports to the Helpdesk? That way only staff members could see them, however that does not eliminate the problem of duplicate tickets about the same bug.

I agree with you that it should be moved to helpdesk, it's a good idea.

It wouldn't be hard to resolve that ticket and say 'This issue has been reported before, but thanks for your report!'.
I would imagine it's an easy process to resolve tickets.

Just from taking a quick look at the bug reports section I can see that there are no bugs that can possibly be exploited to anyone's self gain.

I agree with Il pk I's reply in the sense that it's going to cause frustration and unnecessary work for staff members by replying to topics to explain that the same bug has already been reported. Severe bugs such as duping are reported straight to high staff members because I believe bugs that can be exploited by any player for unfair gains are reward-able, so why would anyone report them in the bug reports section when they can be rewarded for going straight to higher staff members?

Overall; I think it was a good suggestion, but I have to disagree.

Like was stated before, these reports are moved to a hidden staff section once a staff member sees them. However, for the time between the bug being reported and a staff member moving it, the post is free to be viewed by anyone.

Some exploitable bugs are not rewardable (Ex: using ancient spells with the normal spellbook, double exp from hunter). These are things that were reported to the bug reports section. Also, not all players are aware that big bugs should be reported directly to a staff member.
