I find them very useful and also they would add new strategies to the game. You can make them available through quest or something if you think that normal method of changing pray book on altar may be too easy.

Wouldn't really fit into the current combat system, although I would like to see them since it would make prayer worth training.
A big part of the community is also against them, so I don't think they'll be added anytime soon.
