I have noticed that when you drop items, your pet will disappear and you have to drop it again for it to reappear.

Another thing, sometimes during trades or interfaces (loading bank etc) your pet may also disappear...

The pet removal issue when dropping items will be fixed. Though, my pet didn't disappear when trading. I know that pets are removed when you start a duel.
