Auto Retaliate occasionally stops working

Auto Retaliate, as stated in the title,  will occasionally just stop working. Instead of attacking the monster you'll just stand there taking hits. Happens every time I go stand at any aggressive monster, after a few kills you just won't attack them back.

Do you use auto-retaliate to initiate fights, so just afk training somewhere? Or do you use it when eating or switching weapons? If you use it for both, can you remember in which of both cases you stopped attacking back?

EDIT: Nvm, I've found the problem and was able to fix it.
