Feedback / Double xp scrolls
« on: October 03, 2016, 06:59:00 am »
Since the overall feedback topic for the last update suffocated some key parts in the feedback, I decided to make a separate one, so community's opinion could be heard crystal-clear.

I would like to hear what is thought about the changes regarding double xp scrolls.

Change:
For those who are too lazy to read update notes I'll quickly explain the change:
Double xp scrolls used to be in EP shop with a price of 1 EP each. With the last update they were removed from the shop completely and added to EC shop instead. Price being 100EC for 1x1h scroll, which makes it 5 scrolls per 3.5€ donation.

Before I start, I'll quickly mention that I'm one of the most active skillers right now, so I know what I'm talking about when it comes to that.

Search for an explanation:
To start, I would like some explanations from Thomy.
  • Firstly, why was the change needed? Were the scrolls too easy to obtain?
  • Secondly, why was it removed from EP shop completely? We could've just increased their price.
Personal view on their existence for both shops:
I personally think that they should've never left EP shop. Yes, since they were a bit easy to get, we could've increased the price up to 2 EP per scroll, which would've been sufficient, since most people don't bother doing all tasks.

If there was a need to include them in EC shop, the ONLY option that would've made sense, would've been the buying in bulk option. So the people who are too lazy to do 3 tasks per day, could use a shortcut. Example given later on.

Their current price:
I also have to mention the current price. Let's say that a person donates 5€, which allows him/her to buy 9 scrolls (9h of double xp). When I took skilling seriously, I used easily 20+ 20-min scrolls per day (my own record is about 74x20-min scrolls in less than 48h). It's definitely not worth the money as it is right now.

Sudden change without a warning/state of EP shop:
After the update we have two type of skillers: the ones who luckily had stacked their scrolls in banks and the bitter ones who have tons of EP, but they're unable to use it. This could've been avoided with a brief heads up.
E:The last update gave even more to those people who had stacked their scrolls, which is so unfair. We should've been given the same option to do that prior to the changes.

As you may have guessed, I'm now the second type of skiller. I'd rather not waste EP on cosmetics, since I can just buy them with cash (I have a large collection of EP items), so the scrolls were the only thing actually bought from the shop. Yes, we now have auras, but since they last a considerable amount of time, we don't have to pay very often.

Scrolls becoming dead content/unreasonable new difficulty:
The last update made scrolls dead content for everyone, who hadn't stacked any. To make matters worse, the XP cap was increased to 250M. These 2 facts have made long-term skilling (200M/250M xp) frustrating. Don't get me wrong, I would've been fine with the cap increase, if the scrolls had stayed.

Because of the changes, many skillers, incl myself, have just lost their motivation. Most skills were never optimal for such high goals in the first place.

To prove my point I'll give you an example:
20-minutes of thieving with double xp activated gives you about 610k xp, if you're pickpocketing master farmers. That means that it takes more than 102 hours in order to achieve 200M thieving (from lvl 99). That's with double activated.
Now the cap is higher and xp comes slower, which absolutely kills the motivation.

What should we do now?
  • I would add them back to the EP shop with the same or higher price.
  • We can keep the scrolls in EC shop as well, but they have to be in bulk.
Example: 6 EP for 1x1h scroll in EP shop, 500EC for 8x1h scrolls in EC shop (package deal). So people could either do daily tasks 12 straight days (3 per day) or they could buy 8x1h scrolls for 3.5€

Keep in mind that the number of scrolls has to be high enough in EC shop, otherwise no-one would be interested.

Thanks for the people who actually bothered reading this!
I beg you to reply in order to share your opinions, since it's the only way we can actually make a difference.

E: Adjusted information to today's changes. 1 scroll lasts for 1 hour now.

Barbarian village
I like all the changes made. The new models for trees are currently bugged (top isn't showing when roofs are off), but I'll report on that later.
The tutorial is informative and well-made, the only problem with it is the Al-kharid teleport. If you're non-member it teleports you away. Yes you can evade it by spamming space quickly, but most players wouldn't do so. My suggestion would be either to change spot (behind the bank, close to the ship is non-member area, so it wouldn't teleport you) or move it to the final sequence of tutorial with a warning that it's the final spot, however you will be teleported if you're not member.

Runecrafting
This doesn't really change much, since we don't have talismans yet, but I'd also like to add one altar, which crafts random runes, but with double experience points. You don't know which runes you'll get, so it's basically a gamble. You might get more xp, you might get less.
If talismans are added, you should be able to craft their equivalent tiaras as well, which gives you both access and a small xp boost.

EC shop and double xp scrolls
I agree that members need more exclusives and I like the 10% boost, however I hate the fact that Double xp scrolls were removed from EP shop. I would've been fine if they were added into EC shop in large quantities, so you would've had an option to donate for a large amount (450/500 EC for 25 scrolls) or do daily tasks for 7 straight days (3 tasks per day).
This change makes even less sense with increased max limit. If the scrolls would've stayed, I would've been fine with this, but this change in its current situation is too large.
I really hope they will return to EP shop, since it has nothing that I desire as of this update.

Auras
These will be used only at pking (excluding Poison Purge and perhaps Vampyrism). The cost is way too high for regular pvm, considering it has only 1k charges. I only see use for Poison Purge, which can be used at kalphite cave to gain hp via poison damage.
Vampyrism can be used, but it's worth using while you're bossing only, since the price is high. Other auras are just pointless.
I won't comment on this longer, since you'll be hearing soon from pkers.
E: Charges were increased to 10k, I'm fine with them now.

Duel arena
I don't really like the approach here, since all the items will be dumped to the market now, crashing everything. The problem wasn't in item shortage, it was the other way around. Since there were too many of them in-game, stakers could easily get huge amounts, which resulted in dumps and price crashes. This will make it much worse, since we still have no sink for items.
I also think that even with cash only stakes, fees should apply.

Quest and Equipment tabs
I really like the changes in quest tab, but the falador teleport should've stayed. It was a very convenient for many things, such as canifis teleport etc. Also I'd like a toggle to make the teleport buttons 1-click-based. Players with an actual mouse, will have no trouble of misclicking and it shouldn't be too bad for touchpad users as well. Toggle would give them an option to change it, even if they have problem with it.
Equipment tab changes are fine. I'd like to have more discrete wings though, since they ruin most sets imo. That's just a personal preference though.

Other
You mentioned that only wizards around barbarian drops Edgeville tabs, if that's the case, I'd like all wizards to drop them. Especially the ones north-west of Port Sarim.
E: I've been given information that they drop edge tabs elsewhere as well.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Staking fee (dumpbox idea)
« on: September 10, 2016, 10:46:43 am »
People were hellbent on saying ''OMG SHORT DEATH TIMERS WILL SAVE THE GAME AND THE ECONOMY AND ME WHOLE LIFE AND CURE WORLD HUNGER''. Did it work? No. What did it do? Our player count went down.
That's not what was said.
Items were not leaving the game in any way, since you had 8 minutes to retrieve them, which made the game way too safe.
Players are actually losing items now and investing more on GA-s. Unfortunately Ameer is right, it has only affected less rich players.
The update wasn't supposed to fix the economy.

May I ask where do you come up with the conclusion that our playercount has decreased. I would say that it has been quite steady, with higher peaks than we've had all summer.
Now tell us, what would staking fee achieve other than make every single staker quit and kill the low player count we have?
You're wrong about this.

Yes, it wouldn't be liked at first, but the thirst for riches and the addiction would take over. They just can't stop.
The fee itself is minimal, you're talking like we'd take the most out of their stakes, but we're not. We would get hate for a week or so, after that people would slowly get used to it.

We might lose few players in the process, but do we actually need players, whose current schedule in emps is the following: stake, get cleaned, curse at the opponent/game, beg items, rebuild from scratch (rebuild as in start staking from junks, low amounts of cash), stake, get cleaned and the cycle continues. Game doesn't gain anything from such people, they only make more work for staff members, since we have to constantly deal with reports about them.

I don't like the fact that arena has become so popular, even newer members are dragged there by other stakers. Since it's gambling it should either have taxes or strict limits. Since we also need item sinks, taxes are a better way to go.

Nothing will ever top Aaron selling his Abyssal Cannon for 7m rather than 70m ;D
More like Degtukai selling his G kit to Ralphe10 for 1 gp, who then sold it for 500m.

There's another way to get to Waterbirth: You could go there by ship, just pay 100 coins to Jarvald in Relleka and he'll take you to Waterbirth.

Overall seems a good guide, a bit too colourful for me, but it will do.

The droprates are fine imo. However I'm not satisfied with the droptables of Ice demons and Abyssal watchers.

When it comes to the weapons, I agree with you on the cannon. It's just too slow, also not that accurate. It takes forever to recover from a failed cannonfire. It's not better than dark bow imo, especially considering their current rarities and prices.

Vesta's spear lost its explosiveness with the last rework. Now it's really easy to counter it, since the first 2 hits will tell your opponent if and how much to eat.

Wouldn't mind a small buff for Vls, since it's not that good atm.

I haven't tested korasi after the initial testing when it came out. Also I haven't been able to get my hands on Gladiator maul, but from what I've heard maul is great, while korasi is never used.

The largest problem with obby claws is the fact that it has low range (I think it was 4 steps or something). I personally would mind a slight accuracy boost as well.
I wouldn't also mind increasing its droprate, since it's the only good item on the dragon's droplist.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Hunger Games
« on: August 11, 2016, 08:01:33 pm »
I'm only agreeing with this idea, if this will be made available only for events.
If we release another full-time mini-game, we would only split our already small playerbase (those who play minigames). We don't have enough players to keep this minigame alive.
If this would be made available only for events, people would be more likely to join. Also this method doesn't take players from other minigames.

As far as prizes and rewards go, I agree with Otto: this game should act as a cash sink. The entry fee wouldn't be large (like 100-200k) and the winner will receive most of pot, also 2nd and 3rd place will get their payments back.
Any other prizes would temporarily keep the game active, but as soon as those items are bought, the game would die out. So I'd keep this only for events and only cash rewards (taken from entry fee pot). Definitely no item and xp rewards.
