Update Notes / Re: Updates - October 1st, 2nd and 3rd 2016 - New Ways
« on: October 03, 2016, 02:24:49 pm »
Was the 250m change really needed? lol

Yup. There was no way for us to tell who reached 200m first in a skill and thus couldn't place a proper ranking list. Nothing but the highscores change.

Feedback / Double xp scrolls
« on: October 03, 2016, 06:59:00 am »
Since the overall feedback topic for the last update suffocated some key parts in the feedback, I decided to make a separate one, so community's opinion could be heard crystal-clear.

I would like to hear what is thought about the changes regarding double xp scrolls.

Change:
For those who are too lazy to read update notes I'll quickly explain the change:
Double xp scrolls used to be in EP shop with a price of 1 EP each. With the last update they were removed from the shop completely and added to EC shop instead. Price being 100EC for 1x1h scroll, which makes it 5 scrolls per 3.5€ donation.

Before I start, I'll quickly mention that I'm one of the most active skillers right now, so I know what I'm talking about when it comes to that.

Search for an explanation:
To start, I would like some explanations from Thomy.
  • Firstly, why was the change needed? Were the scrolls too easy to obtain?
  • Secondly, why was it removed from EP shop completely? We could've just increased their price.
Personal view on their existence for both shops:
I personally think that they should've never left EP shop. Yes, since they were a bit easy to get, we could've increased the price up to 2 EP per scroll, which would've been sufficient, since most people don't bother doing all tasks.

If there was a need to include them in EC shop, the ONLY option that would've made sense, would've been the buying in bulk option. So the people who are too lazy to do 3 tasks per day, could use a shortcut. Example given later on.

Their current price:
I also have to mention the current price. Let's say that a person donates 5€, which allows him/her to buy 9 scrolls (9h of double xp). When I took skilling seriously, I used easily 20+ 20-min scrolls per day (my own record is about 74x20-min scrolls in less than 48h). It's definitely not worth the money as it is right now.

Sudden change without a warning/state of EP shop:
After the update we have two type of skillers: the ones who luckily had stacked their scrolls in banks and the bitter ones who have tons of EP, but they're unable to use it. This could've been avoided with a brief heads up.
E:The last update gave even more to those people who had stacked their scrolls, which is so unfair. We should've been given the same option to do that prior to the changes.

As you may have guessed, I'm now the second type of skiller. I'd rather not waste EP on cosmetics, since I can just buy them with cash (I have a large collection of EP items), so the scrolls were the only thing actually bought from the shop. Yes, we now have auras, but since they last a considerable amount of time, we don't have to pay very often.

Scrolls becoming dead content/unreasonable new difficulty:
The last update made scrolls dead content for everyone, who hadn't stacked any. To make matters worse, the XP cap was increased to 250M. These 2 facts have made long-term skilling (200M/250M xp) frustrating. Don't get me wrong, I would've been fine with the cap increase, if the scrolls had stayed.

Because of the changes, many skillers, incl myself, have just lost their motivation. Most skills were never optimal for such high goals in the first place.

To prove my point I'll give you an example:
20-minutes of thieving with double xp activated gives you about 610k xp, if you're pickpocketing master farmers. That means that it takes more than 102 hours in order to achieve 200M thieving (from lvl 99). That's with double activated.
Now the cap is higher and xp comes slower, which absolutely kills the motivation.

What should we do now?
  • I would add them back to the EP shop with the same or higher price.
  • We can keep the scrolls in EC shop as well, but they have to be in bulk.
Example: 6 EP for 1x1h scroll in EP shop, 500EC for 8x1h scrolls in EC shop (package deal). So people could either do daily tasks 12 straight days (3 per day) or they could buy 8x1h scrolls for 3.5€

Keep in mind that the number of scrolls has to be high enough in EC shop, otherwise no-one would be interested.

Thanks for the people who actually bothered reading this!
I beg you to reply in order to share your opinions, since it's the only way we can actually make a difference.

E: Adjusted information to today's changes. 1 scroll lasts for 1 hour now.

Introductions & Farewells / Goodbye
« on: September 20, 2016, 01:36:27 pm »
A goodbye is not a goodbye without posting it here I guess,

Nearing 9 years of undevoted attention to this server and seeing it changed over the years has shaped me the way I am and the way I will spend my future. I will carry these experiences with me for the rest of my life.
So I would like to say farewell to all my Emps users, you will not see me again. I hope you will continue to enjoy the features I brought to you and the way I dealt with your requests.
Make sure your voice will stay heard and supported until it makes it into the game.

Introductions & Farewells / Blue Bird has flown away.
« on: June 18, 2016, 10:25:09 am »
My time has come to an end and I'm resigning from the staff team, This will also be my quitting topic.
After I finished college, practical mechanic maritime engineering (specializing in ships), I have been recruited to the military for almost 5 years and 3 of them are mandatory.
R.I.P life indeed. About my military, I'll be in the navy, can't say anything further than that, little bit classified ;)
Being a player of emps world was indeed one of the best times I had during my college :P ::).
It was fun and I enjoyed playing while being at work :kappa:.
Being a staff member was nice, it gave me a chance to help players, although that can be annoying sometimes.
Special thanks to all the staff members & ex-staff, and especially to my friends, which I won't name, they know that i luv em' <3  :-*
Before the military I'm going to travel a bit. My first destination will be Amsterdam, my second will be Bucharest, my third will be in south of Israel, Eilat.
My military start at the 14th of July, until then I'll be traveling here and there pretty much  8)
It was nice being an admin, oh wait :kappa:
luv ya all guys, and I'll be visiting the forums every once in a while and the game if i can.
wish ya all the best  :)

I do realize it may be frustrating not to receive a weekly update, but I cannot always provide that much content. Simply lacking time and energy currently to work on many new updates.

I still and always will care a lot about Emps. I check the site and forum daily, just don't always respond to everything I read. At the moment, I'm working on minor tweaks and are looking for a large update to be chosen. Also, I'm thinking of the overall combat / item balance in the game, which definitely is no easy task.

It may be a nice idea to share my thoughts of the future updates in a weekly blog or so? Would you guys enjoy having that? :)

As Martin said, I'm 100% certain that the game can get way higher count of players online only if we get enough updatesand more arabs to make the game feel fresh, exciting and addicting as it was when we started playing it (Emps Scape).

I still believe that this game could get back on track and reach its 300 online players again. Another question is whether it is worth the effort.

Feedback / Dxp weekends
« on: June 03, 2016, 11:32:29 pm »
See that playercount at the top of this page? Me neither. During the first week after the removal of double xp weekends, it went down by 100-150. Every week since that it has gone down by 10-20.

The market is dead, the forums are dead, the whole game is dead. Despite the new daily tasks that are supposed to make people log in daily, our playercount has reached its all time low. That's nothing to be proud of. It won't take long until we'll reach the point when there is no players logged in during the European and Middle Eastern night time.

I don't know if it's just a bigass coincidence but I'd blame the removal of the double XP weekends for this. Why grind in an RSPS when you can reach the 99's in the real game with the same effort?

One of the many reason staff saw the removal of dxp "obligatory" was that people only logged in during weekends. Let me tell you that it's total BS. People spent the week days on collecting supplies and making money and the weekends on skilling and playing minigames.

90-100 players vs. 250-300 players online on a Friday evening. I'd choose the latter, but I'm afraid those days are long gone. Dxp weekends were part of this game for years. I see absolutely no point in getting rid of them after such a long time.

But 'ey, I'm no developer. What do I know... I'm just a peasant behind a keyboard.

Feedback / Feedback: May 13th updates
« on: May 13, 2016, 01:52:44 pm »
First off, I'm very happy to see an update.
  • Overall monster defence / accuracy slightly increased. This change only has a larger effect on stronger monsters. We've identified that a lot of monsters are too weak with the new tier 80 items and thus need to be made stronger a little bit.
While this update is something I don't dislike I do have to point something out. The new tier 80 items (elemental weapons) are horrid in PvM and almost nobody uses them for that. Mainly due to it not taking more than 6 slayer tasks for your elemental whip to be gone.
  • Boss monsters have higher accuracy and defence now, on top of the global buff. They will hit more often and take less hits. The aim of this update is to make bossing a challenge again, even with maxed out items, and to avoid endless solo trips.
Again, not something I dislike. But perhaps it should've recieved more attention on an idividual level. KBD and chronozon were fine as they were when it came to their difficulty. Bossing is something that should be challenging, but there should be bosses that aren't too difficult in order to get people to learn bosses. I haven't tried them myself since the update, but it may cause people with lower tiers of gear to have to wait out on bossing.

Unless it's not in the notes, there are still some fundamental problems with some bosses. Phase changing (both KQ and corp) takes way too long and unnecessarily drags out a boss fight, it's not fun at all. Bosses need some care on a personal level.

Boss tasks are also affected by this. Since bosses are harder and the rewards for boss tasks haven't changed along with that, I myself no longer think they are worth doing and will probably cancel all of them now. Something should be done about that.
  • New items have been added to the EC shop. You can now purchase a King black dragon outfit. The outfit can also be trimmed with Dragon (g) kits, just like other dragon armour parts! The armour scales with your character up to level 60.
The amount of uses for the dragon g kit keep increasing. Meanwhile sp kit gets no love and becomes worthless while g kits skyrocket in price because of it's rarity. It might be time to do something about that. Adding it as a super rare to crystal key chests might be a decent idea. The stats are unnecessary in my opinion.
  • Daily Task System
Much needed update. A continued source of EP, a reason for people to log in every day. All in all, a great thing to have. The exp at the end of them is a nice touch as well. I do have a few things to say about it though.

I got a karamja course task today. I was told that tasks are chosen from the highest 3 possible tasks. While this system works for some things, it doesn't work for other things.

Smithing/crafting/fletching: My main issue with this is that it's specific about what you have to make. I would much rather have a system that would only pay attention to the material that is used. For example we would have 'smith x rune bars' instead of 'make x rune daggers'. It would make the tasks feel a bit less forced and probably a lot more enjoyable for people to do. If that's not an option, at the very least make rune platebody an available task.

Agility: For one, the requirements for the courses should recieve some attention. While it is possible to do things at that level, it will take a HUGE amount of time for someone at 45 agility to do a karamja course task. This should be looked at. We have 4 agility courses, even someone at 99 would have to run the karamja course which is way below his level. The karamja course also relies on tickets, which isn't a good thing. It should rely on obstacles, like the other courses. The karamja course in general should recieve some updates in order to make it less wonky. There are a few bugs in it that are quite annoying to deal with as well, for example: on the obstacle with the 3 planks crossing the ones on the sides will always make you fall, and the hitbox of the side ones overlaps the middle one, resulting in many drops even if you are clicking the middle one. If people are gonna be led to this arena, it should get some touch ups.

Fishing/cooking: Should just be the highest one, everyone that can fish mantas doesn't want to fish seas, that goes for cooking too. Might be interesting to add caskets/snape grass to fishing tasks.

Combat/slayer: Seems to be missing an exp reward. Would be lovely to have. It would be nice to have combat tasks change into slayer tasks if you're 200m in every combat skill or even for just being member. Combat tasks seem like a waste to me to do, while slayer ones are the complete opposite.

Runecrafting: Could we have them turned into catagories instead of single runes? I would mind making mind runes at a high level, but I wouldn't mind making elemental ones. Could we maybe turn them into 4 catagories: elemental runes (air, water, earth, fire), battle runes (mind, chaos, death, blood), utility runes (body, nature, law, cosmic) and celestial runes (astral & soul). Again, it would make the tasks feel less forced.

Mining/woodcutting: Blurite needs to be removed from the list, I'm not sure if it's even available but nobody will enjoy mining it. Ess, gem rocks and stardust may need to be added. Stardust with a 70 or 80 requirement. Both mining and woodcutting would work out better if it's just the highest one as well, people tend to enjoy not backtracking to lower level ores.

Herblore: Cleaning herbs/making unfinished potions could be okay tasks as well, as long as they aren't specific.

Exp: I would love a 'earn x overall exp' task that would have some difficulty to it just as an extra. It would drive people to be quite competitive in terms of earning exp.

Tasks in general: It would be absolutely fantasic to have the ability to upgrade a task. I would more than gladly lay down money every single day if it meant that I would get tasks that are either more efficient or I would enjoy more. If it would be done via cash, 100k is a fine amount. I really want this, it would be such a great cash sink. Something similar to the vis wax system runescape has isn't a bad idea either.

I would also like the ability to turn off a kind of task once you recieve 200m exp in that skill. This should only be available for skills that take resources, not for ones that give you resources.
  • Drops changes
It's definitely a step in the right direction. I'm quite satisfied with this one, well done.
  • Double xp weekends and Event Points (EP)
Was necessary, I'll get used to weekends being removed.

If you have any feedback yourself or wish to respond to mine, feel free to post it.
