Hello everybody!

Happy Easter! We're celebrating the festivities with a new quest this year. The Easter Event can be started by talking to the Easter Bunny south of the Grand Exchange. We also adjusted mechanics of group bosses to ensure a certain difficulty. On top of that we modernized parts of the homepage to simplify the process for newcomers to sign up.

Easter Event
Starting today you can participate in our Easter Event. The easter bunny can be found south of the Grand Exchange asking for help to find her little son Justin. He loves running away. Finding the little boy is rewarded with very special Easter eggs that can be eaten to receive loot. Strange, isn't it? Among the rewards you can find a Chocatrice pet and cape, sweets, playful marionettes and rares from the super rare item pool. This activity can be completed multiple times similar to the Christmas Event. On average you'll be asked to help the Easter Bunny once every 30-45 minutes of playtime. The event will be active starting today throughout Easter and ending April 15th. There will also be double drop chance enabled during the Easter weekend.

Group Boss Balancing
Certain group boss mechanics can just be bypassed by having a certain amount of dps. That goes directly against the intention of boss fight mechanics. Thus various bosses have had their unique fight mechanics buffed but their defence reduced:
  • Har'Lakk: Defence reduced by 10%. Minions now enrage after a certain amount of time. When enraged, minions will deal increased damage and reduce prayer points. Minion defence level has been reduced and HP scales with group size.
  • Kal'Ger: Defence reduced by 10%. Meteors now have a single hit application and apply a burn (bleed) effect when damaged. The area in which they fall down was also increased and their spawn density was reduced. The maximum amount of damage dealt by a meteor was reduced from 60 to 40 (plus 40 bleed). That increases the damage you take when hit but makes dodging easier. The HP of Kal'Ger has been increased from 2400 to 3000 to bring him towards similar difficulty of other demon bosses that spawn minions. That is an additional 100 HP per phase.
  • Yk'Lagor: Defence reduced by 10%. The Necroarcher's darkbow and poison arrow special attack have been made stronger. Lethal thunder attack now strikes in a 3x3 area and deals a maximum of 100 damage instead of 120. The amount of minions spawned depend on the group size. For groups of 4 players the total amount of minions spawned remain the same. Minion defence has been lowered and their special attack occurs every 5 attacks instead of every 4.
  • Nex: Defence reduced by 10%. Shadow, Blood and Ice area of effect special attacks are now neutral damage which cannot be protected. Continuing phases is no longer possible without minion kills. The melee attack range of Nex has been increased by 1 tile. Damage and HP of minions has been lowered and scale with the group size. As long as minions are active the normal attack of Nex's phase deals additional damage.
  • Vanstrom Klause: Blood siphon mechanic can no longer be dodged by standing near a wall or by being too far away. Attack animations no longer lack behind when vampires are moving.
  • Rot Caves: The rot attack from Lucien now scales harder with rot concentration. Additional loot can now be received by killing more monsters before facing Lucien.
With these changes we don't want to make fights more difficult but keep them future-proof. It shouldn't be possible to skip unique boss mechanics by having one item or high dps.

Homepage & Advertisements
The frontpage of our website now supports up-scaling. This change was made to have more space for the video and image gallery. I have also added an additional video to the slideshow. All account pages have been modernized with simplified templates for login, account creation, recovery, etc.
I was able to purchase an ad banner for 2 months on a popular RSPS list site called Runelocus. You can observe how well it works here: https://emps-world.net/stat#statplot,90
Page visit is counted for every click on the advertisment. Conversion means that a page visit also resulted in a login to the game.

List of changes:
  • Poison heal, deflect and purge auras no longer use a single charge when their effect is applied. Charges lost now depend on the amount of poison damage negated. The poison purge aura is now correctly classified as a tier 1 aura and has 1000 charges instead of 2000.
  • Teleblock is now correctly calculated on players.
  • The client's login logo is scaled up on bigger screens.
  • Animation calculations have received performance improvements. The game no longer renders animations for entities or objects that are not visible on your screen.
  • Rod of ivandis now has an aura model.
  • Various rivers have received water flow control mechanisms. Water will be flowing towards a given direction.
  • The mime event has been reworked to support multiple players at the same time. You'll also get a random amount of emotes (4-8) instead of a fixed amount of 8 now.
  • The drunken dwarf event has been re-enabled. He'll start hitting you if you fail to talk to him in time.
  • Aura lights have been adjusted to have their center on your right glove.
  • Lights in darker areas automatically gain intensity. This is a preparation patch for areas that are too dark to explore without proper light sources.
  • Iironman, moderator and wiki editor chat icons have been upscaled and sharpened with AI.
  • Lumberjack set effect now counts towards Firemaking daily task completion.
  • Defeating evil trees now yields additional rewards: Pile of evil leaves. These can be exchanged by Evil Dave for Lumberjack items. Moreover, the amount of logs you can receive from an evil tree has been capped at 1000.

Various parts of Karamja including Shilo Village have been configured. There will be new activities and dungeons for you to explore in the jungle in a future update. I'll keep you guys updated on the progress. :)

All the best,
Thomy

Update Notes / Updates February 6th - Various Quality of Life Improvements
« on: February 07, 2024, 08:39:15 am »
Hey guys,

In this update we're updating various things to improve gameplay. There's changes to the Giant Mole allowing you to bypass the dig mechanic and more items can be deconstructed. I've also added a dark cave in Shilo Village experimenting with lighting. There's also river flow mechanics through the village. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Game fixes / changes:
  • An issue was fixed that disconnects you when withdrawing larger amounts of items from looting chests.
  • Various fences and gates now allow arrows and spells to fly through them.
  • Chaos elemental's attacks that unequip items have been fixed.
  • Using a special attack no longer clears a full teleblock duration.
  • Promethium drops in the Rot Caves can now contain promethium boots and gloves.
  • Selling items to non-general stores no longer increases their amounts. This addresses an issue where it's possible to mule large quantities of runes from main to ironman accounts. This is heavily going against the principle of obtaining items on your own aka the ironman mode. With this change the restock speed of the runes shop has also been increased.
  • Ranger boots, obsidian cape and various christmas reward items can now be deconstructed.
  • Various issues with the giant mole have been fixed. Moreover, you can now skip the burrow mechanic by freezing or teleblocking the mole before she starts digging.
  • Promethium hatchet now only loses charges when logs are obtained instead of when a new chopping timer is calculated.
  • Dragon (g) and (sp) can now be deconstructed for treasure and dragon energy.
  • Amulet of fury and its ornament version can now be deconstructed.
  • Clue scrolls can now be purchased from the EP store.
  • Shilo village gem rocks can now be mined. There is also a hidden entrance to the gem caves somewhere in the village.
  • It's no longer possible to get the exact same clue step twice in a row. That fixes an issue where Uri would spawn twice.
  • Trapdoors can no longer be assigned as daily Construction task.

Engine fixes / changes:
  • Clickable areas for small items on the floor have been improved.
  • Special attack hover information for god blades has been added.
  • The visuals of triggered bird traps for the Hunter skill have been improved.
  • Various floor tiles inside buildings now support hard edges on highest floor quality setting.
  • An attempt of water moving away from a central point has been made in Shilo Village and Barbarian Village.

I'm not quite sure what the next big project will be. I currently have a few ideas in mind: Shilo Village & Jungle area configuration with various new monsters and a short quest. Other than that Summoning or another group dungeon where you'd face Nomad. That could potentially all be within or around the jungle area of Shilo Village. :D

All the best,
Thomy

  • Poisonable Promethium Weapons: Colored promethium spears and daggers can now be imbued with potent poisons, amplifying their potency against specific foes. This refinement also resolves an issue where poisoned Promethium Daggers would vanish upon death.
  • Clue Scroll Drop Rate Boost: Clue scroll drop rates have been increased when fighting bosses or completing slayer tasks, rewarding your dedication.
  • Slayer Helmet Level Requirements Removed: All level requirements for slayer helmets have been removed. Instead, the helmet's effectiveness scales with your stats up to level 80, providing a more flexible and rewarding experience.
  • Item Deconstruction During Combat: Item deconstruction can now be performed during combat, allowing you to manage your inventory more efficiently.
  • Collection Log Fixes: An issue where noted items did not count towards collection log completion has been resolved, ensuring accurate tracking of your achievements.
  • Pathfinding Improvements: The server-sided walking queue processor has been rewritten to ensure your character accurately follows your commands and reaches the intended destination. This addresses issues caused by timing discrepancies and lag.
  • Ammunition Effectiveness: Basiliskbane and Wallasalkibane ammunition now correctly apply their respective effects, ensuring your combat strategies are more effective against specific enemies.
  • A Promethium pickaxe charge depletion issue during mining has been addressed.

Hey guys,

In this updated we're revisiting balancing for PvP. Various items with PvP specific block modifiers have been balanced. we are also introducing negative accuracy bonuses for equipment to encourage gear switches. The run energy system was also reworked to overall restore energy faster but to also drain faster with heavy equipment.

PvP Equipment Buffs
Accuracy and damage mitigation for equipment was lust lacking for PvP. With this update the pvp damage block modifier is also added to your accuracy. This doesn't only give PvP great defensive capabilities but also increases hit chances. Following items have been adjusted:
  • Zuriel, morrigan, vesta and statius: 1.0 --> 3.0/4.0
  • Corrupt zuriel, morrigan, vesta and statius: 0.5 --> 1.5/2.0
  • Third-age: 0 --> 2.0/3.0
  • Barrow: 1.0/2.0 --> 2.0/3.0/6.0
  • Trickster, vanguard and templar: 1.0/1.5 --> 2.0/3.0/4.0
  • Clue scroll reward items: 0.0 --> 1.0/2.0
  • Zaryte bow: 0.0 --> 4.0

The aim of this change is to have different specialized gear for PvP and PvM. That makes buffing and nerfing equipment a lot easier while also not destroying item balancing completely for either PvM or PvP.

On top of these changes negative equipment bonuses are also added. Equipment received negative accuracy bonuses for opposing combat styles. For a melee equipment piece you'd get full negative bonuses for mage and some for range accuracy. Following equipment slots have negative bonuses:
  • Body: -30 to counter combat style and -15 to weak combat style
  • Legs: -21 to counter combat style and -11 to weak combat style
  • Helmet: -6 to counter combat style and -3 to weak combat style
  • Gloves: -5 to counter combat style and -3 to weak combat style
  • Boots: -3 to counter combat style and -2 to weak combat style
  • Shields: -8 to counter combat style and -4 to weak combat style
Negative bonuses will promote gear switches for increased accuracy. So no more casting in full metal plate armour. There are no negative bonuses for melee accuracy. You can always use a melee special attack weapon without suffering from any gear penalties.

Here are two example setups:

Following mechanics related to PvP have also been changed:
  • Protection prayer damage reduction for PvP has been reduced from 60% to 50%.
  • Protect from magic no longer reduces any freeze timers.
  • Using a special attack on another player puts a short teleblock on yourself in the wilderness.
  • Revenants cave is now single combat only.

Run Energy Rework
The way run energy drain and recovery is being calculated has been reworked. You restore 4x more run energy when standing still and even more when resting. Run energy is restored at a reduced rate when frozen. The factor at which you restore run energy is heavily impacted by your Agility level as well. Unless you are wearing heavy armour you have pretty much infinite run energy at higher Agility levels.

Your run energy reduction is determined by the amount of weight you carry. To keep things simple your run energy drain per second is 5% of your weight. If you carry items that weigh a total of 20kg you lose 1 run energy point every second. The weight of 20kg is roughly what a melee setup with a full inventory of manta rays weighs.

The weight values of various items have been updated. This includes skilling resource items, equipment. etc. It's impossible that I've set a correct weight value for all items in the game. So please let me know if there are mistakes! Moreover, equipped items only affect your total weight by 50%. If you have to carry heavy armour or weaponry it is recommended to wield it instead of having it in your backpack.

Game fixes / changes:
  • An issue was fixed that kept forgetting the clan chat you were in.
  • Guthans had his lifesteal mechanic fixed. He was healing too much too randomly.
  • Lifesteal effects for npcs received a visual indication.
  • Broadcasts inside dangerous pvp zones have been disabled. It's unfair to wait for a message to run to a given spot and hunt down a player.
  • Protect from magic no longer reduces freeze timers.
  • A bug was fixed where sending a private message by clicking a name from the online clan chat list didn't work.
  • The projectile system (magic spells, arrows, etc.) has been improved. Projectiles are now calculated from one entity to another rather than from stationary coordinates. This fixes visual issues where arrows or spells drop out of thin air during combat with a lot of movement.
  • Teleporting now cleares the in combat timer allowing you to instantly logout or bank after a successful teleport.
  • The logout delay inside the wilderness has been increased from 20 to 30 seconds. It should be impossible to get away from a fight by closing the game client.
  • You are now notified about new Collection Log entries.
  • Revenants are once again dropping third-age. The drop rate for a random third-age piece is half the drop rate of statues.
  • With the introduction of negative magic bonuses the experience gain system for magic has been reworked. This allows you to create a setup where you permanently splash your spells. Your Magic experience gain is now divided into two parts: flat experience per spell cast plus damage dealt on enemies.
  • Energy potion now restores 15 run energy up from 10. Super energy potion now restores 30 run energy up from 20.

Engine fixes / changes:
  • An option to the "Interface Settings" has been added that improves text readability. By default it is set to 50%. This setting sharpens text and increases its contrast. Moving the sharpness slider to the left completely disables the option and renders text as it always used to.
  • A bug was fixed where loading sprites could result in the engine locking because it was waiting for the file system. This happened when installing another game (this is how I found out about it) or reaching 100% disk read usage by other means.
  • The model for female torva helm has been corrected.
  • The lighting and water system have seen minor performance improvements. There were fps issues when many lights had to be rendered on the scene, e.g. Slayer Tower.
  • Lower light quality settings no longer render small light sources, such as torches, candles or lanterns mounted to walls. This improves performance by a lot for only a small change in scenery.

I hope you're enjoying these changes and test out some PvP! We've got more things planned for the wilderness. Please give feedback on how the current changes affect gameplay. We frequently discuss ideas and changes on Discord.

Thomy

Hello everybody!

We're extending the veteran ranks of up to 16 years. The item pool that can be dyed has been expanded with Chrysos, Promethium and Necator. There have also been changes to the Mining skill lowering level requirements for existing. We also added bane ore, which can be smithed into powerful ammunition against certain types of enemies. Moreover, the lighting system has reached its final stage allowing us to configure material properties.

Specular Lighting and Material Properties
The lighting system is reaching its final state. We introduce global illumination aka the sun light. This means that small amounts of light is cast on everything in the game. This results in more realistic scenery. The specular lighting system was improved, which allows us to give materials different reflective properties. Meaning that light shining on metal looks different from light shining on grass. These properties have been applied to various different kinds of armours and floors. Please let me know if something is too shiny or not quite shiny enough. Defining reflective properties of materials is still work in progress and takes quite some time to for finetuning. If you want to check it out by yourself try equipping some metal armour and move the camera around. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like:

Mining Rework
The Mining skill has been reworked to make it more user-friendly and afkable. Pickaxes and Mining levels now also have a heavier impact on ore retrieval speeds. Following things have been changed:
  • You no longer get 2 ores per successful mine action. You get single ores at faster intervals now.
  • Your pickaxe bonus was doubled. This directly reflects the speed at which you get ores.
  • Rocks containing ores now have a resource count which represents the amount of ores you can obtain before switching to an empty state. You can obtain at least 4 ores per rock. The higher level rocks contain around 8-12 ores.
  • The mining animation was changed. It's faster and thus offers you more ticks at which you can obtain ores. This results in faster mining speeds for lower level ores.
  • Several level requirements to mine ores have been lowered. They have been made equal to the Smithing requirement for smelting a bar. Mining difficulties, which determine when you get ore remained untouched.
The aim of this change was to let the Mining skill feel similar to other gathering skills, such as Fishing or Woodcutting. It is definitely become more afk-able resulting in better experience rates and less clicking.

Dye System
Our dye system has completely been reworked making it much easier to add new items. With this change the recolor algorithms for Barrow, Shadow, Blood and Third-age dyes have been adjusted to give colored items more depth. You've already been enjoying this change for weeks by the way. Here's an image of all new recolors you can create now:

Veteran Ranks
I didn't think I'd ever expand the pool of veteran icons in the game. Nonetheless, I am proud to expand the pool for veteran icons in the game. By today we are officially older than 9 years. You can now choose from icons of up to 16 years. Let's see if we have to expand the veteran icon pool again in 8 years. ;)

Bane ammunition
With the change to ore requirements for the Mining skill we've got quite some space left for the higher levels. This gap is filled with a new type of metal to mine: Bane ore. Starting at level 85 Mining you can obtain one out of 4 Bane ores. You can smelt those into bane bars which are futher refined into arrows and bolts. This ammunition deals additional damage against certain higher level Slayer creatures. Bane ore can be found in the Glacors cave, just before visiting Yk'Lagor.

Game fixes / changes:
  • A bug was fixed where dropped items would not show after using stairs or ladders.
  • The login code has been overhauled and made more robust. This was done in an attempt to fix a bug that gets you stuck during the login phase.
  • It is no longer possible to get duplicate slayer tasks from the task selection interface. This also fixes a problem where you'd not always get the full task selection prompt.
  • Promethium maul and 2h weapon now count as 2 items towards the promethium set bonus.
  • Various teleportation spells received proper experience gains.
  • Antirot potion can now be created.
  • The probability for slayer tasks of slayer creature has been lowered. Metal dragons have been combined into a single task and Shenven no longer assigns every slayer creature. Have a look at the wiki for all changed tasks lists.

In the coming updates I'd like to revisit Hiscores and think of another Competitive season during winter. I think that we could have Hiscores for who earns the most xp every in a given cycle. Maybe 3-6 months and reward the top ranks with unique weaponry similar to Competitive season winners. What are your thoughts on this? Feel free to comment here or on our Discord.

Thomy

Hello everybody!

Prepare yourselves for a new challenge with the Slayer skill. Collect components for the Abyssal defender and Necator hides to craft new ranged armour. Moreover, evil trees started to appear on the worldmap. On top of that the lighting system receveived visual improvements.

Slayer Expansion - Superior Creatures
The Slayer skill has been expanded to offer challenges beyond level 99. Complete a miniquest from Shenven to enable spawn chances for stronger slayer creatures to appear during tasks. You will be challenged by tougher monsters that offer drops for a new tier 85 Ranged armour and components for the Abyssal defender.

Evil Tree
Every few hours an evil tree will be spawning on random locations on the map. You can ask Evil Dave who lives north of Barbarian village about the phenomenon and how to get started. Cutting down evil trees rewards large amounts of logs as well as a chance to obtain the Woodcutter set which gives you a chance to directly burn logs when chopping trees.

Game fixes / changes:
  • The default attack attack speed for 2h swords and mauls have been lowered from 4.5s to 4s.
  • Emps Credits can now be transformed into a stackable item by purchasing Emps Credits from Bolkoy. This item can be traded with other players and be sold on the Grand Exchange. The item is also tradeable for ironmen.
  • Lower level Revenants now also count towards Slayer task completion.
  • Casting a magic spell when having special attack enabled no longer reduces special attack energy.
  • You can no longer light any item with a tinderbox.
  • Building a trapdoor is no longer possible for the floor space in POH.
  • Splashing a magical spell no longer grants xp nor deals damage.
  • Ceremonial swords can now be traded on ironman accounts.
  • Experience lamps can no longer be used when xp lock is enabled.

Engine fixes / changes:
  • The roofs of edgeville have been straightened out.
  • An issue was fixed where equipping items that only differ in colour would not update the character model.
  • Lights at the Grand Exchange have been improved. This also includes the application of light sources with a larger radius.
  • Lights of fires have received a flicker effect and a specular component. This results in more realistic scenes for fires including reflective parts.
  • A bug was fixed where shadows inside houses would not render properly when the roof hasn't been seen yet.

I hope you're having fun with the slayer expansion and evil tree. :)

All the best,
Thomy

Hey guys,

Dynamic Lights can now be enabled from the Game Settings. They beautify the world by emitting light from various sources, such as fires, lanterns, monsters, etc. Promethium equipment has also received buffs that increase the amount of rot damage done to enemies. In order to support dynamic lighting core parts of the rendering engine have been rewritten and improved. If you are interested in the change there is a technical section below.

Dynamic Lights
Quite some optimizations and changes were required for an improved lighting system to properly work. If you are interested there is a dedicated section later in this news post regarding the technical details. Dynamic Lights can be enabled from the game settings to get lighting effects from fires. Feel free to play around with the setting but bear in mind that higher quality lighting requires GPU power to run smoothly. The lower settings, however, shouldn't be a problem for older devices. Here's an example of Canifis with Dynamic Lights enabled and without:
This is only the beginning of dynamic lights. I have effects planned for unique monsters but also projectiles or graphics from bosses. It will also be possible to simulate a day and night cycle with dynamic lighting. Let me know what you think!

Promethium Equipment
We still aren't quite happy with the popularity and combat power of promethium items. Thus they received a buff that increases rot damage overall. Promethium weaponry including arrows now deal part of their damage as additional rot damage instead of having a 50% chance to infect rot. The set bonus has been adjusted to also increase rot damage by a given amount instead of only reducing it. This will make rot weapons a strong alternative in longer fights.

Game fixes / changes:
  • An issue with the attack interface for halberds has been fixed.
  • Wyrm combat has been rewritten to fix a bug where they'd continuously dig themselves in.
  • Magic dart can now be properly used with normal magicks.
  • Operating books can no longer be used to taunt enemies.
  • Items can no longer be equipped during teleport animation. Under rare conditions it was possible to cancel out animations and get into buggy states.
  • Built-in spells of staves can no longer be cast with other staves after relogging.
  • A problem was fixed that could get you into a permanent walking animation when failing an obstacle at Barbarian agility course.
  • Chronozon is now categorized as demon.
  • Ammunition in quiver can now be moved during combat.
  • Prayer auras now correctly degrade when used in combat.
  • Double hits (dark bow, dds, etc.) can no longer harm monsters that have damage immunities.
  • Multiple problems with dialogue options mixing up were fixed.
  • The weapon speeds of various weapons were fixed.
  • Tutorial dialogues regarding community now mention Discord.
  • The chance to poison an enemy with ranged weapons has been increased to 25%. Poisonous melee weapons have a chance of 50%.
  • Entering bank pin is now required when collecting items from the Grand Exchange.
Engine Optimizations
I have reviewed and optimized various parts of our rendering engine to prepare for dynamic lighting. I also investigated a problem where loading would take very long on slower devices. This is a rather technical summary so feel free to skip it if not interested:
  • Animation quality: very distant objects now render in much lower qualities, improving fps rate by quite a lot on slower devices. You feel this improvement in areas with lots of torches.
  • Animation performance: the way animations are calculated in the CPU have been optimized. I have also removed the need of updating model colors every animation frame.
  • Model & texture loader: cached instances can no longer be removed during loading times. This results in the game not having to fetch the same asset twice or thrice on slower devices.
  • Calculations for radius and height of a model was optimized. It can now be calculated during an animation frame.
  • Mipmapping for textures is now done on a per texture level instead of a per texture array level. This greatly reduces the computation time of newly added textures.
  • A way to dynamically calculate normal vectors for models was added to improve shadow quality and support dynamic lighting. Usually this information is stored inside a model file but we don't have this information. So it needs to be calculated when the model is loaded. This takes some time but it won't affect fps rates much since it happens in background without affecting any game logic.
  • The internal structure of object and floor areas have been reworked. They load quicker and no longer can be refreshed on every rendered frame resulting in less frame drops.
All these optimizations add up to quite a significant increase in frames per second, especially on older devices.

I hope you're enjoying the dynamic lighting system. Feel free to share your ideas on what models in the game could also emit light. The system is fairly flexible and I am open for suggestions. I recommend to have a look at Barrow brothers, Tormented demons or equip auras to see what is possible.

All the best,
Thomy

Hey guys,

The Revenants Cave has received a rework. The area itself was updated with more Revenant spawns and improved drop rates. Frost dragons received their own cave and can only be killed on Slayer task. Their drop table was also improved. You can read the list of full changes below.

Revenants Cave
Several changes have been made to the Revenants cave. The aim was to modernize the cave itself and move Frost dragons away from the wilderness.
  • Frost dragons have been removed from the cave and Revenants and Neitiznot island.
  • It's no longer possible to sell antiquities for gold to shops. They must be exchanged in the center of Revenants cave for cash.
  • Lower level Revenants drop antiquities less often.
  • High level Revenants drop valuable items more often.
  • Revenant combat power has been adjusted. Their combat level now reflects their combat strength better.
  • Attack intervals are no longer random but follow a pattern.
  • The chance of a Revenant healing has been adjusted. It can trigger when being below a certain health threshold and becomes more likely the lower the Revenant becomes.
  • Antiquities can no longer be sold for the full price to the general store. Hartwin, an adventurer inside the north-eastern part of the revenants cave, will still buy them for full price.

The Revenants cave is now a Revenants cave and no longer a Frost dragon cave. The change to selling antiquities promotes activity within the caves and rewards immediately exchanging antiquities for money.

Frost Dragons
Frost Dragons can no longer be found anywhere on the map but the Frost Drageon cave. You can enter the Frost Dragon cave through the Asgarnian dungeon. This is only possible when being on a Slayer task. You also require a specific Slayer level to harm the dragons and their drop table has been improved. The prayer experience for Frost dragon bones has slighly been increased as well.

Game fixes / changes:
  • Fire at mudskipper point can now be used to cook.
  • Adamant category in the Smithing interface no longer contains all items.
  • Broadcasts for unique item drops have been updated. They now include the enemy with killcount or location.
  • Broadcasts for hardcore ironman deaths have been updated. They now include the enemy that dealt the finishing blow.
  • Quiver, rune bag and looting interface are no longer closed when entering combat.
  • Items from the looting can no longer be withdrawn during combat.
  • Projectile heights for demon bosses have been fixed.
  • The combat levels and scalings for Lucien van Rot have been fixed. The boss hit too much in 2p and 3p dungeon versions.
  • Unholy cursebearer can now be assigned as Slayer task.
  • The Slayer task amounts of Barrow brothers are now always divisible by 6.
  • The code for selecting spells to be autocasted has been reworked. You can also no longer create scenarios where casting ancient magic spells would be possible with another spellbook. Your autocast spell has to be present in your active spell book from now on.
  • Tormented demons have received a weakness to water and ice damage.
  • A bug in the Falador party room was fixed. It was possible to duplicate your balloon drops. There is nothing to worry though, because all of this was logged. In the coming days we'll be going through the drop logs and issue bans to excessive abusers.

Engine fixes / changes:
  • Texture loading has been delayed to happen after map loading. That prevents frame drops on slower machines during initial login. The code to generate mipmaps was also optimized for modern openGL versions.
  • An issue was fixed where delayed graphics on entities would render too early.
  • Self shadowing was improved to give models more depth. An issue with brightness on interface models was also fixed - the character on your equipment screen wasn't properly lighted.
  • A problem with Frost dragon textures was fixed.
  • Text rendering quality has been improved when scaled up.

Slayer elite monster spawns aren't quite there yet. However, with the addition of more monsters to the Slayer skill you see where this is going... ;)

All the best,
Thomy

Update Notes / Updates January 28th - Grand Exchange Issue & Bugfixes
« on: January 27, 2023, 11:34:19 pm »
Hello everyone!

Our update today contains various fixes and improvements. The Grand Exchange required a patch and a restart to fix a serialization problem with the database. Since this bug caused item duplication we were forced to rollback the game for roughly 24h. Sorry for the inconvenience. Moreover, severeal tweaks were made to the game client to improve performance and stability.

Rollback January 27th
Due to problems with the Grand Exchange duplicating offers we were forced to issue a rollback of roughly 24 hours. Only items have been rolled back, everything else including experience gains, new accounts, password changes, name changes, etc. remain the same. If there are still issues with your game or the Grand Exchange, please create a helpdesk ticket.

Grand Exchange Serialization
I have identified a problem with how the Grand Exchange saves transactions to the database. There was a bug which crashed the process when our system lost connection to the database for a brief amount of time. This caused items that were taken out of the Grand Exchange to be duplicated. I am sorry for the inconvenience and have improved the way our Grand Exchange saves transactions to the database. It can no longer crash in the way it did!

Homepage Updates
Several changes have been made to our homepage. You can now browse all news articles on the front page. Unnecessary descriptions and headers were removed. The process of loading news was also optimized resulting in better loading times and thus also better page scores for search engines.

Game fixes / changes:
  • Vampires now require level 42 Slayer to be killed. They also received an entry in the Slayer interface that recommends silver weapons and fire spells.
  • The attack animation of Bloodfelds has been improved. Their melee attacks have been turned into magical attacks. Meaning that your magic defence will be considered against their accuracy. Their damage type is still melee, so protection from melee will negate all damage.
  • Vampires now pause their attacks a few ticks longer when transforming to avoid the upcoming attack animation overwriting their transformation.
  • The ranged attack for Vanstrom Klause during his last phase has been improved. The flying animation was slowed down a bit in order to better synchronize client and server positions. There is now also a small additional delay after the ranged attacks have finished before the next attack.
  • Rod of Ivandis no longer shows the graphic of last spell used.
  • Poison protect, heal and deflect auras have been changed. Poison damage done to you remains unchanged when wearing such auras. Receiving the poisoned status is now possible though. That improves how auras work against poisonous enemies by triggering its effect without having to unequip the aura to receive poisoned status.
  • The Falador Party Room has been improved. You are now able to choose the amount of items in an item stack that will be dropped. It's also possible to remove items (that have not yet been confirmed!!) from the chest without having to re-open the interface.
  • Promethium equipment can no longer be found on the Grand Exchange search.
  • Promethium weapons now have a higher chance of increasing the damage of rot infections.
  • Attack speeds of karil's crossbow and elemental bow are once again 2.5s.
  • Zamorak robes can no longer be put in the armour case.
  • Glaiven, ragefire and steadfast boots / gloves have received one additional strength bonus to have them better in line with other items.

Engine fixes / changes:
  • Inventory icons of Jad and Corporeal beast pet have been improved.
  • The timeouts for loading the map has been increased to avoid slow computers not being able to load anything at all.
  • The game client now tries to recover from faulty traffic instead of crashing the game. I've seen a small amount of crash reports on this topic.
  • Sound cache size has been decreased to better support machines running on low memory configurations. Please bear in mind that old clients (<1GB RAM configuration or Java 1.8 or older) require more memory to run stable!

This update including all changes and fixes was released a bit early due to problems with the Grand Exchange. I am still working on superior slayer monsters and will keep you guys updated on the progress. :)

Thomy

Update Notes / Updates January 5th - Bugfixes & Improvements
« on: January 05, 2023, 07:43:55 am »
Hey guys,

Happy New Year!! This update focuses on fixing bugs that got introduced during the Christmas time. The previous Slayer update also looked really good so I'll continue working on the expansion. You can check out the list of changes and improvements below to see what was fixed.

Bugfixes & Improvements:
  • NPC contact spell was fixed. Talking to Slayer masters and choosing all options is once again possible.
  • A bug with combat power of Vyrewatch in the wilderness was fixed. With this fix their combat levels have also been adjusted to properly reflect their actual combat power. Lower levels received less health and highe levels more health as well.
  • The weaknesses of Vampyres to fire have been increased from 10% to 15%. The silver weakness was also increased from 20% to 25%.
  • Various shooting star positions have been slightly moved to avoid the Star sprite becoming unclickable.
  • Prices on the Grand Exchange no longer randomly jump to 0 or 1 gp. There was a bug with the timestamp calculation of unlogged orders.
  • Decanting potions has been updated to include the entire inventory instead of a single stack of items only.
  • Melee special attacks now also include additional bonuses such as the slayer helmet, salve amulet, etc.
  • You can no longer add duplicates to the ignore list.
  • Cure plant spell now properly tells whether a patch was cured or not.
  • The Make-over mage is now able to properly use plurals when giving items to players.
  • The audio system has been updated to be less stressful for the CPU. It received a caching mechanism to not always have to fully load an audio file. This helps slower devices a lot to improve the timings of when exactly sounds should be played.
  • The rock placement code in Trollheim has been improved. There shouldn't be any more flying rocks in the area.
  • Walking path calculations around Mudskipper point towards fishing spots are no longer bugged.

I'll now be focusing on the Slayer expansion that was planned. This includes superior monster spawns and new creatures with unique requirements to kill.

All the best,
Thomy

P.S. The Christmas event is going to end on January 13th. You still got some time left to finish your present deliveries for unique rewards!

  • Looting bag can no longer disappear when trying to empty it while eating food.
  • All cave horrors are dropping items now.
  • Void knight can once again be healed with bandages.
  • The code for talking to npcs has been updated. The game will pause the random walking code when getting close to an npc you are interacting with.
  • The recipe for the creation of a slayer helmet has been added to the advancements interface.
  • A bug with deconstructing the full slayer helmet was fixed. You could get an additional black mask that way.

Hey guys,

I hope you're having a great time. Christmas is just around the corner and our annual present delivery event is starting. You'll be able to get your hands on additional rares this year: Dagon'Hai robes. The Slayer skill has also received improvements including new item requirements and rewards.

Christmas Event - Present Deliveries

Santa is once again asking for your help to do present deliveries! You will receive a Christmas cracker for every successful delivery - no matter the outcome. Dagon'hai robes have been added rare Christmas cracker drop table (1 in 1000). The robes also received a requirement of level 70 Magic to wield.

Rot Damage & Promethium
I've changed the way promethium weapons and arrows apply rot damage. They now provide a stacking effect on every third hit instead of a flat application on special attacks. Meaning that continuous hits with promethium equipment will increase ticking rot damage. This goes up to a maximum value of 100. This means that you can stack rot effects with multiple people providing the enemy is not immune to rot.

Slayer Rework
The Slayer skill is receiving a few adjustments. Slayer boots, gloves and the Slayer helmet no longer grant additional Slayer xp when killing monsters. I understand this is frustrating but the mechanic is weird and outdated. To cope for that change overall Slayer xp rates and Slayer point gains have been adjusted. The experience per kill is now roughly the enemy's hitpoints multiplied by 8. Bosses or other special monsters gain additional modifiers, such as the Fight Caves or group dungeon challenges. The aim was to flatten the curve between low level and high level Slayer masters. And to also reduce the enormous Slayer point rewards from Shenven and boss tasks. On top of that the amount of monsters assigned per task has also been increased. There will also be additional Slayer points when completing task streaks:
  • Every 10th task: x2 Slayer points
  • Every 25th task: x3 Slayer points
  • Every 50th task: x4 Slayer points
  • Every 100th task: x5 Slayer points
  • Every 250th task: x10 Slayer points
Slayer shops now contain various items required to slay specific monsters. This will be mentioned when you are assigned a task. The level requirements for Slayer masters and Slayer helmet have also been changed. You can no longer buy a Slayer helmet but buy the secret behind its creation process. Once known you can create as many Slayer helmets as you like as long as you have level 55 Crafting and the required items.

The Slayer skilling interface has been updated to include such item requirements for Slayer tasks.

The wiki article contains all experience rates and Slayer point rewards: https://emps-world.net/wiki/Slayer

There will be a part 2 of the Slayer Rework including Superior Enemies during tasks. I couldn't quite finish this before Christmas - I have about 6 monsters done already though. So stay tuned to see it releasing sometime soon next year! ;)

Game fixes / changes:
  • Adjustments have been made to non-boss monster's combat power. Level scaling was changed to better reflect an npc's combat level. The change mainly increases defence and accuracy values. Max hits have been lowered slightly to cope with the change.
  • Clue scroll drops have been made rarer and their loot was increased.
  • Droptables for dagannoth mothers have been fixed.
  • Enter last option for POH has been fixed.
  • The price calculation for Grand Exchange has been improved. More recent transactions now have a greater impact on an item's average price. This value is now also updated on a fixed interval multiple times a day.
  • There's now a chat message for every 10 kills you have left when doing a slayer task.
  • A bug with protect item prayer was fixed where it would not activate during deaths.
  • Fishing spots no longer make a death sound.
  • Shukarhazh has its name fixed for all forms.
  • Edgeville bankers (and other npcs) are once again facing their proper direction.
  • Activity timers of 00:00 are no longer shown in chatbox. Such activity scores are invalid and also not eligible for Hiscores. An example for an invalid score would be a player death or more people entering when the dungeon already started.
  • Promethium can no longer be traded in its noted form. I understand that may be frustrating but Promethium items, once smithed, are not supposed to be traded.
  • Silk stalls among others once again yield proper loot.
  • Poison deflect aura no longer causes chatbox messages of you being poisoned albeit it not happening.
  • The attack speed of Kree'Arra (hm) was increased by 1 tick to be able to react to incoming projectiles with protection prayers. The melee attack's power was also cut in half since it's pretty much unprotectable damage.
  • Boss instances now notify you when a score is no longer eligible for Hiscores.
  • Talking to npcs has been improved. You should no longer follow them until they stop before starting the dialogue.
  • Ice Strymewyrm code has been improved. You can now also just attack them instead of having to initially select the "Investigate" option.

Engine fixes / changes:
  • Waterbirth island received a snowing effect.
  • Skilling interfaces now support searching for advancements.

This is the last content update for 2022. We may still get a few bugfix patches but other than that I hope you've enjoyed Emps-World this year. I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in advance. See you next year with plenty of new things to come. Thanks for playing! :D

Thomy

Update Notes / Updates November 24th - Rot Cave and Color Saturation
« on: November 24, 2022, 07:46:13 am »
Hello everybody!

Rot Cave is now available - a new and challenging group dungeon located in West Ardougne. Before being able to participate you need to complete a short miniquest explaining the situation of the rot. You can obtain Promethium equipment that protects from and inflicts rot damage.

Rot Cave
A new dungeon has opened in West Ardougne! Talk to King Lathas (upstairs in West Ardougne castle) to start a miniquest explaining the Rot crisis. The Rot cave introduces Promethium equipment and a new damage type similar to poison: Rot. This damage keeps increasing up to a certain threshold or until you die. Your Herblore skill allows the creation of Antirot potions which are an absolute must when facing rotten enemies. The cave can be joined in groups of 2-4 people. Monsters in the cave will be scaled to the amount of maximum participants of your group. Meaning that the difficulty does not depend on group size. Loot you find inside the cave is added to a loot chest that can be accessed in front of the entrance.

I have already uploaded the drop table to the wiki: https://emps-world.net/wiki/Lucien_Van_Rot
Please bear in mind that our wiki team needs some time to prepare all Rot Cave pages!

Rot Infection & Damage Calculation
A Rot infection is lasting damage that you catch when receiving any kind of rot damage. The burden of your infection is defined by the maximum rot damage you received. Rot starts with an initial damage and keeps increasing every 15 seconds until reaching a maximum.

Below's a list of four different rot infection scenarios:
  • Rot: +2 damage up to 20
  • Strong rot: +3 damage up to 30
  • Aggressive rot: +4 damage up to 40
  • Lethal rot: +5 damage up to 50
Getting hit with 35 rot damage results in Strong rot: starting at and increasing by 3 damage every 15 seconds up to 35 damage total. Depending on the amount of rot damage you take your infection can increase. Your Strong rot can become Aggressive rot and Lethal rot when receiving higher rot damage.

Drinking any antirot potion grants immunity from rot infections. It clears all rot infection damage ticks and prevents you from catching it. You also gain a 50% rot damage reduction when under the effect of antirot.

Promethium Equipment
With the introduction of the Rot Cave you are now able to create various anti-rot items. You will find promethium metal to be useful because it can also create better hatchets and pickaxes. The equipment itself offers rot protection in form of a set bonus that maxes out at 6 pieces equipped offering 50% rot damage reduction. This reduction does scale multiplicatively with antirot potions. Promethium weapons do also count for the set bonus and do inflict rot when using special attacks on enemies. Promethium arrows always have a small chance to inflict rot damage. You can repair promethium equipment by using a promethium bar on it.

Here's what the armour looks like (including new lava cape texture):

The 6-piece set effect of promethium grants 50% rot damage protection but it DOES NOT grant immunity from rot infections. In combination with an antirot potion you can get a total rot damage reduction of 75%. The effects are combined multiplicatively: 50% from antirot potion is increased by another 50% from promethium --> 75% total.

Color Saturation
You are now able to adjust the color saturation of the game. Feel free to play with the Saturation setting from the Game Settings. This value highly depends on your monitor and what color tones you prefer. Below is a screenshot of what the default saturation vs. full saturation looks like:

The Game Settings interface also received a minor overhaul putting more important and frequently changed options to the top.

Game fixes / changes:
  • The projectile calculation code for large monsters has been reworked. Projectiles are now fired at the center of monsters rather than at a fixed height. This also works for larger monsters such as dragons, black demons, bosses, etc.
  • Smelting options with batches of 1, 5, 10 and X are now properly working.
  • Getting into combat no longer closes interfaces. You are free to keep skilling guides, price checker, kill logs, etc. open when fighting enemies.
  • The Smithing, Mining, Crafting, Herblore, Woodcutting and Fletching skilling interfaces have been reworked. They received tabs with categories for item types.
  • The amount of ammunition you smith has been increased significantly.
  • Loot chests are now sorted by item value. Meaning that valuable loot appears in first slots for Vampire catacombs and Rot cave.

Engine fixes / changes:
  • Minimap icons for the Grand Exchange area have been updated.
  • NPCs can no longer be clicked during their death animation.
  • Lava capes have been updated visually. Textures received more detail and were made brighter.
  • The audio system has received a rework to play higher quality sounds. This change is heard best when playing rather quiet sounds.
  • Typing in the clan chat tab automatically sends messages to clan chat without having to start with the / symbol.

All the best,
Thomy

Fixes on November 25th:
  • Rot percentage display has been fixed. It's now properly going down when killing monsters in the Rot cave.
  • Antirot effects were made clearer.
  • A chat message will be displayed when a rot infection was made stronger or cured.
  • Rot cave boss can now be assigned as slayer task. The task damage modifiers count for all monsters inside the dungeon.
  • The amount of task monsters to kill for Shenven has been adjusted.
  • Various damage types of monsters got mixed up resulting in hitting through protection prayers. The bug was fixed and everything should be back to normal!

Fixes on November 26th:
  • Burning the tomb in Rot Cave no longer removes 25% of rot concentration but 10%. I understand that sucks, but it allowed to skip the entire dungeon without killing anything but the boss. That also increases the damage Lucien does with his rot attack.
  • Activity scores are now always shown and tell you whether they are eligible for a hiscore spot or not. New rank 1 activity scores are also announced globally and your personal best is announced to you.
  • Your top activity scores are displayed in collection log interface where applicable.
  • The combat power of Lucien for 2p and 3p instances has been increased by 5%. This doesn't change the difficulty of 4p instances.
  • Promethium arrowtips have been removed from the Lucien droptable. I am sorry for those who received a single arrowtip.
  • The Rot Cave hiscores have been reset to allow fair competition with the difficulty changes.
  • Activity Hiscores no longer show any rating but the completion time. The rating was a value calculated from completion time.
