Is there a difference between those 2 on an obby mauler?
if yes what's the difference

I dont think there is if they both train str.

Hack just hacks more and smash just smashes more.
Depends if you're a hacker or a smasher. Im bit of both to be honest. I try to smacker.

If the smash grants attack XP, then it has higher accuracy. There's no longer individual attack bonuses for slash, smash and stab. They are all the same now.

I don't know about the latest updates, but it used to differ back when I played.
Nonetheless, I'd still keep on using smash. You're less likely to train defence when using smash, than when using hack (Switching from the maul to a weapon with just three attack options, like a bow, will select defensive attack style).
