Hunter guide
« on: February 15, 2015, 12:03:27 pm »
Hunter is the 22nd available skill in Emps-World. It has it's own unique hunter areas, level requirements and experience that this guide will cover. Hunter is partly member, but can also relatelively easily be done by non-members. This guide will tell you if you need membership for something, and will always offer a free player alternative. If you are looking for a list of how to reach level 99, scroll down to the XP table for 99.

Things you should have to start hunter smooth: Some coins, Home teleport (or charged glory amulet) for Rimmington/Port sarim, teletabs or teleport to Camelot/Lumbridge, a duelling ring or home teleport to reach Rellekka and membership (not required useful).

Start, levels 1-25

You start hunting west of the Grand exchange. Just walk south and west along the wall from the grand exchange teleport (or walk from the barb spot, or through the shortcut to the north (requires 10 agility and member):
Bring some coins!

At the purple spot you find the Hunter expert. Buy a butterfly net, a noosewand, about 5 butterfly jars, about 5 box traps, 3 rabbit snares and 5 bird snares.

At level 1 start catching common kebbits (72 exp). You can do this by finding a burrow close to the Hunter expert. Click on it to reveal a few tracks leading to a bush.

Follow it, click on the bush. Another trail will lead to a second bush. Attack the bush with a noosewand equipped to catch a common kebbit! (when you don't click attack the game will tell you there's something hiding in that bush)
It is possible to fail this action, so make sure you caught one before you move back. You will automatically try to catch it again if you fail.

You'll get 72 hunter experience for every common kebbit and a common kebbit fur. You can get a woodland camo set if you bring 4 common kebbit furs and 400 coins to Thessalia at varrock square.
Catch common kebbits until level 25.
Once you reach level 17 and if you're member you will also have a chance (about ~50%) to catch dark kebbits (156 xp), which give double xp than common kebbits. The furs are useless though.

If you get bored and you're a member, catch some golden warblers (231 exp) (yellow birds) at level 21 till level 25. They can be found north of Al kharid, easiest way is to go to the duel arena and immediately walk west outside the gate. Just place 2 bird snares and wait for them to get caught. They give 231 hunter experience.

Levels 25-40

Time to hunt ferrets (264 xp):
When you reach level 25, go to the east of Rimmington and bring about 3 box traps, 3 bird snares and your woodland camo.

Place 2 box traps (at level 20 you can only place 2) near a couple ferrets and now just sit back and watch until a ferret runs into your trap. You'll get a game message and see the box collapse when you caught one.

Click on it to pick it up, get 264 hunter xp and place the trap again.
You have a chance on getting a ferret pet, these are only available to members.
Catch ferrets until level 31.

You can then catch the copper longtails (378 xp) in this area. Place 2 bird snares (after you picked your boxes up, you cannot place boxes and snares more than 2 at the same time unfortunately) and wait for them to fly in much like the box trapping hunter method.

The easiest way to level to 40 is doing copper longtails (378 xp), but if you're member you can hunt desert devils (456 xp) north of Al-Kharid at level 33. Tracking is not always a fun thing to do, so I recommend bird snaring. From the furs you get here you can make a desert camo set however.

Levels 40-63

At level 40 take a teletab or teleport to Lumbridge and walk into the swamp. Bring 3-4 box traps.

Catch swamp lizards (636 xp) here by placing 3 box traps near a spot with many lizards. This works just like the ferret box trapping, so continue doing this until level 63. Swamp lizards give 636 Hunter experience.

I did swamp lizards until level 63 so I could catch chinchompas, as box trapping is easy and fast, plus it gives quite a lot of experience for level 40 compared to other hunter creatures between 40-63.

Alternative levels 45-63

You can also choose to hunt cerulean twitch (645 xp) at rellekka at level 43 if you get bored of swamp lizards. I recommend going there at level 45, so you can also catch the Sapphire glacialis butterflies (582 xp) in the area in the meanwhile. This alternative method does not grant more experience than catching swamp lizards, but if you don't mind intensive clicking you can get a bit more XP here.

Bring 4 bird snares, 4 box traps, a butterfly net, few butterfly jars and a noosewand. Start off with the cerulean twitch, granting 645 experience, catching a few Sapphire glacialis (582 experience) in the meanwhile. Dont forget to release the butterflies if you have no more empty jars left.

Once you reach level 49 you can track Polar kebbits (642 xp). Keep a few bird snares active and equip your noosewand to catch polar kebbits by searching burrows and snowdrifts in the area. Polar kebbit tracking requires a few more trails to be checked though, so it takes a little longer.
You get 642 experience and a polar kebbit fur. Just like the woodland camo you can exchange these furs at Thessalia for a snow camo outfit. (Membership required)

Snowy knights  (792 xp) and penguins (618 xp) are not really worth the experience so I would recommend skipping those, unless you're going to hunt butterflies while placing a few box traps for penguin trapping. You have a chance on getting a nice penguin pet though. (Membership required)

Levels 63-70

At level 63 you can catch chinchompas (687 xp) north of Falador. Bring about 4 box traps (and a butterfly net + jars if you like clicking, you can catch ruby harvest while waiting, they don't give a lot of xp though, only 312).

For each chinchompa you catch you get 1 stackable chinchompa (can be used as throwing weapon) and 687 hunter experience. Keep doing this until level 70 if you like box trapping. If you'd like to train hunter without being a member, do grey chinchompas until you can catch red salamanders at level 82 and continue with the level 82-92 chapter.

Alternative levels 63-70 (member)

If you're member you could also go to the west part of brimhaven at level 63, mainly recommended when you have 81 fletching and like tracking.
Bring a butterfly net, 5 butterfly jars, a chisel and a noosewand. You can start catching razor-backed kebbits (936 xp) with your noosewand and tracking their burrows. You need to follow 3 trails to find one.

Once you're level 65 (and member) you can catch the black warlocks (1062 xp) with your butterfly net in the same area. Not recommended if there are high level players there that catch them barehanded.

Levels 70-82 (member)

At level 70 and with membership you can catch orange salamanders (1191xp) with box trapping. Find them north of Al-Kharid. Bring like 4 box traps to catch them.
If your magic level is high enough, take some alch runes and alch the salamanders you catch, they give quite a lot of gold and extra magic xp.

Levels 73-82 (member)

I would recommend catching orange salamanders till 82, but if you like to get the range weapon and you're member then go north Falador again at level 73. Bring 4 box traps and a lot of butterfly jars. Start catching Red chinchompas (954 exp) there, but be careful not to set the box traps too close to the grey chinchompas. You want to try to avoid these as they give less XP.

At level 80 you can catch the ruby harvest there barehanded (1350 exp). Make sure you dont have any weapon or sorts in your hand and catch these while you're box trapping the red chins. Repeat until level 82.

Levels 82-92

Catch red salamanders (1743 exp) when you're level 82. You can find them on the Karamja volcano, on the surface between the scorpions. Go to Karamja using your charged glory amulet of your home teleport to Port sarim and then take the boat, don't forget to bring like 4 box traps and 30 coins!
If your magic level is high enough, take some alch runes and alch the salamanders you catch, they give quite a lot of gold and extra magic xp.
Do this till level 92, if you train hunter without membership, catch red salamanders till level 99.

I would do these until level 92, but if you get bored at level 85/90 you can also set off to Rellekka or White wolf mountain with a lot of butterfly jars and jump around trying to catch Sapphire glacialis (1650 exp) and Snowy knight butterflies (1950 exp) barehanded. Snowy knights require membership to catch barehanded.

Levels 92-99 (member)

Catch Black salamanders (2061 exp) when you're level 92. You can find them inside the Karamja volcano, in the dungeon, or in the high wilderness, just east of the Mage arena. There are more black salamanders in the high wilderness, but theres a chance PKers will find and kill you. (Membership required)

Bring about 5 box traps and an alch set (and 30 coins if you go to karamja). You can also use the Ring of duelling to go to the obsidian caves and walk outside to enter the karamja volcano dungeon. Low level players may get attacked on Karamja! An antipoison might be helpful, as the snakes poison high level players aswell.

I would do this until level 99, but you can also catch Black warlocks (2205 exp) at level 95 barehanded. Take a lot of butterfly jars and find them west of Brimhaven (don't forget 30 coins for the ferry).

Level 99

Congratulations! At level 99 Hunter you can wear your Hunter cape! Buy it from the Hunter expert west of the Grand exchange.

XP table 1-99

This table will tell you how to get your Hunter cape the fastest in one image. It tells you how many times you need to hunt a creature under which circumstances to get the next required level indicated.

Thanks guys

Might update the guide later with easier to see individual xp per creature + hunter potions + baiting and smoking traps (although that's only 'worth' if you're catching creatures that actually reward you with meat that you can bait with)
